Omran Architects won the first prize in The Downtown Development competition.The New Downtown Development is the starting point for the regeneration of the city itself and relocating Alexandria in its international context. The project is considered the key for national and international investments as it adds value to city economies and create desirability for citizens to approach the new urban community. The development follows the 2030 Future Vision which focuses on "The Life Quality" and "Sustainability" concepts . The project is a mixed use development featuring five main functions: Residential, commercial, cultural, entertainment and business that reflect the different cultural aspects of Alexandria making it a COSMOPOLITAN CULTURAL CITY. The master plan is centralized by "The Urban Core" that acts as the main gate for Alexandria's major development as it consists of high-rise office buildings with terraces overlooking Careffour, hotels and urban plazas enhancing the social interaction among citizens.the development of the downtown district is considered to be one of the first and righteous steps in the path of developing and supporting the economics of Alexandria in particular, and the Egyptian economics in general, given that the district is located in a featured site near the entrance of Alexandria. the project aims in forming a unique urban community and environment, featuring five main functions; residential, commercial, cultural, entertainment and offices which reflects the different cultural aspects at which Alexandria holds, making it a cosmopolitan cultural city defining its character. furthermore it’s considered that the project is a focal point at which the local and the foreign investments are going to flourish, giving a major and sustainable leap in developing the local economics
